No, this tour takes place at the Petit Trianon and Estate of Marie-Antoinette and does not go into the main palace. If you wish to do that, please make sure you book a visit in the morning before this one, as after our tour is finished you will not have enough time to fully enjoy the palace before closing time.
This tour is a perfect way to spend the afternoon after visiting the palace of Versailles in the morning!
No! This tour is the perfect complement to a morning visit of the Palace of Versailles. You will see the two very different sides of life at the palace, and gain a much deeper understanding of Marie-Antoinette in particular. It’s ideal for those of you who wish to explore and learn more, but is also a wonderful way to spend an afternoon and does not require a visit to the main palace beforehand in order to enjoy it.
No! The Private Estate of Marie-Antoinette is often overlooked by visitors to the palace. It’s tucked away at the bottom of the park, and is much quieter and more tranquil than the main palace. It provides the perfect relaxing afternoon after a morning visit to the palace, and also shows the stark contrast between the lives led by Marie-Antoinette at the two royal residences.
We meet in Versailles at the top of the Grand Canal (full directions on your voucher). It’s about a 20‑minute walk from the Palace. To reach the meeting point from the Palace area you’ll need a Gardens ticket —your voucher explains the simplest route. Please ensure you leave plenty of time to buy your garden ticket (there can be a line) and walk down through the gardens.
Alternatively, if you want to avoid going through the gardens and buying a ticket, you can access Versailles park for free through the gate called La Grille de la Reine. From there it’s about a 15 minute walk to the meeting point.
Most visitors take the RER C to Versailles Château – Rive Gauche (then walk through the Gardens), or come by taxi. On rare occasions there are RER C service changes—in that case, use suburban Transilien L (Rive Droite) or Transilien N (Chantiers) instead. We’ll flag any major disruptions in your pre‑tour instructions
Yes—many families love this visit. Please reserve a place for every participant, including children, as they count toward group size and timed entries.
Manual wheelchairs are available on site (free, for indoor use), and access ramps exist at the Trianon entrances; however please note that only the garden level of the Petit Trianon is accessible, wheelchair users will not be able to visit the furnished rooms which are all on the first floor and only accessible via a staircase. Garden distances are long and the paths are narrow and uneven, the paths are narrow. For these reasons we do not recommend this tour for wheelchair users.
Strollers are fine outdoors; inside rooms, rules can vary and staff may require you to leave strollers/large items at the cloakroom when it’s operating. In general, large bags and suitcases aren’t allowed—travel light. Only foldable umbrellas are allowed inside the Petit Trianon.
